Dan Sarian

Educational background and experience:  Bachelors Degree - Elementary Education from Shenandoah University (1983).  Master of Theology (Th.M) from Dallas Theological Seminary, 1989.  Executive Director of Youth for Christ/Campus Life in northern Virginia (1979 – 1984).  I served as an intern under Dr. Gene Getz at Fellowship Bible Church North in Plano, Texas (1987 – 1989).  Pastor of Youth Ministries at Fellowship Bible Church, Colorado Springs (1989 – 1998), Pastor of Student Ministries, Foothills Bible Church, Littleton (2004 – 2006).  I worked in the business world (Wells Fargo Bank - Project Manager from 1998 – 2004) and local government (City Manager of Stockton, Kansas, 2001-2004).

Why do you teach?  I love being around tweens and teens.  They’re my passion.  I also love to teach the Bible.  In my teen years I had opportunities to do public speaking and I never looked back.  I’m the third generation of ordained ministers.  Both my dad and my grandfather served the Lord as pastors. The Lord has given me a love for His Word, the ability to communicate it to a wide range of people and a good sense of humor to set people at ease.  There’s nothing quite so rewarding as watching someone learn and by learning seeing their heart change.

Why do you teach at FRCS?  Teaching is only one part of my ministry at FRCS.  I also enjoy providing counsel to students, parents and faculty.  I have the privilege of leading the Spiritual Life Committee with staff and students where together we facilitate opportunities for our school community to enter into worship and ministry.  We also set the chapel schedule for all grades.  I teach Bible Classes: World Religions, Church History, New Testament, Marriage & Family, Apocalyptic Lit. and Apologetics.  What an amazing opportunity we have as teachers in a Christian school to teach God’s Word everyday, without fear of reprisal.  Not only do we get to teach the Bible throughout all subjects but we also get to invest ourselves into student’s lives everyday!

What is your passion in life? Besides eating?  I love to read, learn and share what I’m learning.  My passion is gaining in my understanding of God’s heart more each day, loving my daughter, the reading of books, learning, laughing and keeping hope alive that someday I might be married again. I was widowed in 2002 after 10 years of marriage.

What are your hobbies and other interests?  Video taping and editing.  I’m a frustrated Steven Spielberg!  Playing acoustic guitar and singing.  I laugh out-loud when I watch the 3 Stooges because it’s physical comedy.  I enjoy a good movie (action, comedy, military-documentaries).  I enjoy traveling when I get the opportunity, especially to beach destinations.  I’m a weekend handyman.  My favorite room in the house is my garage where I keep my tools. I’m a home-improvement guy.  Anything having to do with fixing, upgrading, painting, restoring.  I love watching college and pro football and remain a Philadelphia Eagles’ fan (I was born and raised in the Philly area).  I like working in my yard, cutting the grass, riding bikes with my daughter, going to the pool, exercising when I get the chance (maybe twice a year) and camping.  I like to eat out when the budget allows and barbecue in my backyard.  I also like to go pheasant hunting when visiting my in-laws farm in rural Kansas.  I’ve never actually shot a pheasant with my 12 gauge but I have killed one with my car!
